Even if you uninstall some programs on Windows, its associated modules and files might not get cleared from the computer completely. This guide focuses on Spybot Search and Destroy, which is an adware and spyware removal program. There are two ways for that as explained in detail below.
Once the computer reboots, open Windows Registry Editor. For that, type regedit in the search box of Start Menu, choose the editor from the search results, and click OK to confirm that once a dialog box pops up. Inside the Registry Editor, you need to navigate through the directories to locate Spybot – Search and Destroy folder and delete it. If you are using Windows 7, click HKEY_CURRENT_USER on the left pane of the Registry Editor, choose Software directory, and delete the registry files and keys in the Spybot – Search and Destroy folder.
You can also remove the program using the uninstaller file of Spybot Search and Destroy. For that, right click on the desktop shortcut of the Spybot program and select Open File Location option from the pop-up menu. When in the drive or location in which the program is installed, look for the uninstaller file for Spybot Search and Destroy, most likely to be titled Unins000. Double-click on the executable file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
No matter which of the above steps you choose to uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy, make sure to clean the residual files from the Windows Registry as instructed above. Yet remember, altering any keys or directories in the Registry Editor wrongly can lead to further issues. So it is better to contact our technical support team in case you do not know how to do that.
